BEST SPORTS, AND HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE EUSKERA

Today I witnessed two games, a basketball and football. The first has won the Bilbao Bizkaia Basket and Athletic Club second, but in both cases the result was (almost) the least. My presence in Bilbao at San Mames Arena and was due to my logical support for the campaign "Human Rights and sports" (although the San Mames PA says 'Sport and social rights') driven by my department.

"The world can be a better place if people with our differences, we are of the same team." It states that campaign launch to commemorate the 62 th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. And I, of course, subscribe to the text.

The Declaration was adopted specifically cited the December 10, 1948, so last Friday, International Day of Human Rights, celebrating the recognition of a simple, fundamental rights are generally accepted and govern our legal system, but not were our fathers and mothers. Let alone our grandmothers and grandfathers. And so that day gave Rene Cassin Prize for Human Rights, the highest distinction of the Basque Government in this matter. Rather, gave the prizes, since This time the award is shared by Mary Oianguren and Peace Brigades International.

As Lehendakaritza claims on Friday, Mary gives several merits that make it worthy of this recognition: his work as director of Gernika Gogoratuz, its ability to combine efforts and wills, personal worth ... Is an example of improvement, has faced life with its difficulties and gives us show courage and determination. But his work also no reflection. Mary is both artist and muse, do your own work and analyzes and proposes content for the evolution of human rights, while it causes, suggests and inspires other people, professionals and students, or people current for Human Rights to develop in multiple ways, along with Art, History, Literature or any branch of knowledge. Along with everyday life, from Gernika to the world.

I hope this recognition encourages her to continue working with the rigor and enthusiasm with which it has done so far and helping to bring a little more names Euskadi Gernika and the desire for peace of their citizenship.

Moreover, Maite Elizondo received the award on behalf of Peace Brigades International, an NGO whose work saves lives. Literally. Because without their daily support work without witnesses uncomfortable, the lives of many people would be in danger. Brigades woven around union leaders, peasants, women, relatives of missing persons, lawyers and student leaders, among others threatened, a network of protection and support that enables them to perform their jobs.
deterrent
His work seemingly simple, has successfully protected the lives of thousands of defenders of human rights in different parts of the world, and has become known conflicts often forgotten.
Peace Brigades International has shown in almost 30 years, the foreign presence alone deters violence and creates space for local activists to pro-Human Rights do their job.

why their activity is also unique because, as an independent, not interfere in the affairs of people accompanied the conviction that lasting peace can not be imposed from the outside, but must be the work of local staff.

Maria, Maite, I again sent from this virtual txoko my thanks and congratulations. Mila esker!
